TORONTO: Reports indicate that motorized watercraft are set to be banned from the city’s beaches. This decision comes amidst growing concerns over operator negligence and excessive speeds.
The Toronto City Council has approved a resolution to prohibit motorized watercraft, including jet skis, within 150 meters of the shoreline at Woodbine Beach by June 2026. Councillors stated that these vessels pose a significant risk to swimmers and other beachgoers.
Councillors cited safety concerns, specifically pointing to reckless operators endangering swimmers and kayakers, as well as unlicensed rental companies, as reasons for the ban.
