TEXAS – The Texas Joint Primary Election is taking place today, March 3, 2026. Voters across the state are heading to the polls to select party nominees for the upcoming general elections. Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM and will remain accessible until 7:00 PM tonight. Authorities have ensured that special assistance and facilities are available for senior citizens and voters with disabilities to ensure a smooth voting process.
Texas operates under an “open primary” system, meaning voters are not required to have a formal party affiliation to participate. However, regulations stipulate that a voter can only participate in one party’s primary per calendar year. Separate ballots are provided for the Democratic and Republican parties.
To secure a victory in the primary, a candidate must receive more than 50% of the vote. In races where no candidate achieves an absolute majority, a runoff election will be held between the top two candidates to determine the final nominee.
