Technical Glitch Causes Major Delays for Commercial Trucks at Canada-US Border

OTTAWA: A technical system failure is causing significant congestion and delays for commercial trucks attempting to cross the Canada-US border, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has reported.

The agency confirmed that the system glitch is impacting commercial processing, with the disruption being particularly notable in the border areas of Southern Ontario.

A CBSA spokesperson stated that IT personnel are actively working to resolve the technical issues. To manage the resultant traffic, officials have been deployed to process traffic and exports at the Primary Inspection Lanes (PIL) at key crossings, including the Peace Bridge and the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. Additionally, officials from the Peace Bridge Authority and the Niagara Falls Commission are assisting with traffic control efforts.

The Canada-US border is one of the world’s busiest, seeing the daily passage of approximately 400,000 people and billions of dollars worth of goods. In 2024, the agency claimed to have inspected and processed around 4.5 million commercial trucks entering Canada, an average of approximately 12,328 trucks per day, highlighting the severe impact even short disruptions can have on trade.
