‘Stop Killing American Citizens’: Manitoba Premier Expresses Outrage Over U.S. Violence

Winnipeg: Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has issued a sharp and emotional call for peace in the United States, expressing deep concern over escalating political tension and violence in the neighboring country. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Kinew urged for stability and immediate action to stop the loss of life, stating that the province is closely monitoring how the instability south of the border might affect Manitoba.

Addressing the U.S. administration directly, Kinew said, “Mr. Trump, stop killing American citizens.” His remarks followed a recent fatal shooting in Minneapolis involving federal immigration officers. The Premier revealed that he had reached out to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to express his outrage and offer support following the death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse. Kinew emphasized that regardless of one’s political stance—whether a Trump supporter or otherwise—no one wants to see people “shot in the middle of the street.”

Kinew highlighted the importance of “moral clarity” during what he described as a very difficult period for the United States. He noted that while Manitoba remains a committed trade partner, leaders have a responsibility to speak out against injustice and violence. “We also have to be able to speak with integrity and look at ourselves in the mirror at the end of this,” he said, adding that trade relations should not prevent a leader from addressing “terrible things happening right next to us.”

Despite the current crisis, the Premier reaffirmed the long-standing bond between the two nations. He remarked that the United States will remain Canada’s closest neighbor for the next century and beyond, expressing hope that the country will emerge from this period of turmoil sooner rather than later. For now, he urged Manitobans to show solidarity with their American friends and family members during these trying times.
