Statistics show increase in U.S. travel from Ottawa airport

Ottawa: A report indicates an increase in US travel from Ottawa Airport compared to last year. The number of Canadians traveling to the US had decreased due to border restrictions and tariff-trade issues. According to data provided by the Ottawa Airport Authority, 406,786 cross-border passengers from the US arrived in Ottawa from January to June this year. This is a seven percent increase compared to the 379,984 passengers who traveled in the first six months of last year. The Airport Authority also stated that 2,389,041 passengers have traveled through Ottawa Airport so far this year. Of these, 1,702,152 were domestic passengers and 280,103 were international passengers.

Ottawa Airport Authority spokesperson Krista Kealey said it is unclear why the nation’s capital is bucking the trend when other Canadian airports are reporting a decline in the number of cross-border passengers. She also noted that the number of passengers traveling to Florida and Washington, D.C. is increasing dramatically.

Travel consultant Elliott Finkelman said the growing presence of Porter Airlines in the capital is influencing the number of US travelers.
