Snowfall Warnings Issued for Maritime Provinces

HALIFAX — Environment Canada has issued a series of weather warnings as a significant winter system prepares to sweep across the Maritime provinces. Starting Sunday morning, New Brunswick is expected to face the brunt of the storm, with snowfall accumulations predicted between 10 to 20 centimeters. Authorities have specifically highlighted that the southern regions may also experience ice pellets, while the northeastern parts of the province could see reduced visibility due to the combination of heavy snow and strong winds. Travelers in these areas are urged to exercise extreme caution as the hazardous conditions are expected to persist until Monday morning.

Similar wintry conditions are forecast for Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia. The weather agency predicts that snow will begin Sunday, likely transitioning into ice pellets and freezing rain by the evening, and eventually turning to rain in most areas. While much of Nova Scotia remains without official warnings, its northern sections are bracing for a messy mix of precipitation. Environment Canada warns that higher terrain, such as the Cobequid Pass, may see a much slower transition to rain, extending the period of icy and dangerous driving conditions.
