Severe Low Pressure: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Canada’s Maritime Provinces

HALIFAX: Environment Canada has issued a series of weather warnings as a potent winter storm is set to lash all three Maritime provinces starting Monday. An intensifying low-pressure system, moving through Nova Scotia late Sunday night, is expected to bring heavy snowfall and damaging winds to the region.

Nova Scotia

The provincial authorities have issued a Yellow Alert for Western Nova Scotia, where snowfall totals between 15 and 25 cm are expected. High-velocity northeastern winds, gusting up to 90 km/h, will accompany the snow, significantly reducing visibility. Conditions are expected to improve by Tuesday morning. Similar snowfall and wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h are forecast for Eastern Nova Scotia throughout Monday.

New Brunswick

Southern and Eastern New Brunswick are bracing for 15 to 25 cm of snow. While most areas will see gusts between 60 and 80 km/h, the Fundy Coast could experience powerful winds reaching 90 km/h. The weather system is expected to take hold Monday afternoon and persist until Tuesday morning.

Prince Edward Island

A Special Weather Statement is in effect for PEI. Residents should prepare for heavy snow starting Monday morning, with accumulations of 15 to 25 cm. Strong northeasterly winds of 60 to 80 km/h are predicted, likely leading to blowing snow and hazardous driving conditions across the island.

Federal agencies have advised residents to monitor local forecasts and avoid non-essential travel during the peak of the storm.
