Serial killer Dellen Millard transferred to medium-security prison

OTTAWA: A controversy has erupted over the decision by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) to transfer notorious triple killer Dellen Millard from a maximum-security institution to a medium-security prison. The family of one of his victims, Tim Bosma, has strongly protested the decision.

Millard, 32, was first convicted in May 2016 for the 2013 murder of Tim Bosma, a Hamilton resident. The trial revealed that Millard and his accomplice, Mark Smich, killed Bosma under the guise of purchasing his pickup truck. Bosma’s body was later incinerated in an animal cremation device named “The Eliminator,” owned by Millard.

Millard was subsequently convicted in 2017 for the 2012 murder and incineration of 23-year-old Laura Babcock. In 2018, he received a third conviction for the murder of his own father, aviation executive Wayne Millard, a case originally ruled a suicide. Dellen Millard was handed three consecutive life sentences, amounting to 75 years of ineligibility for parole, one of the longest sentences in the Canadian justice system.

Tim Bosma’s widow, Sharlene, and his parents, Hank and Mary, expressed shock upon hearing the news of Millard’s transfer to a less secure facility. The family stated that the authorities disregarded the feedback they had provided and voiced profound disappointment with the changes in the justice and correctional systems.

In response, the Correctional Service of Canada stated that there are limitations on sharing offender information. However, the CSC affirmed that the inmate could be returned to maximum security at any time if deemed necessary to ensure public safety.
