NEW DELHI — Russia has extended an invitation to Indian products to enter its market, following the United States’ decision to impose an additional tariff on India. The announcement was made by Roman Babushkin, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi. Babushkin stated that the US’s move to levy a 25 percent tax on India for purchasing crude oil from Russia was “wrong.”
He criticized the US, saying that it would not behave in this manner if it considered India a friend. Babushkin also expressed hope that energy cooperation between India and Russia would continue without external pressure. While acknowledging that this is a challenging time for India, he noted that India has decided to continue purchasing crude oil from Russia.
In addition to the 25 percent tax imposed on crude oil purchases from Russia, the US had previously imposed another 25 percent tax on Indian products.
