Region of Waterloo International Airport runway transforms into charity racecourse

KITCHENER: Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) Canada has organized the Runway Run, a charity race held on an inactive runway. The event was held at the Waterloo International Airport in collaboration with Run Waterloo and featured a 2-mile and a 5-mile race, along with a 200-meter fun run for children.

Organizers announced that the event, which was attended by about 500 people, successfully raised $12,000. This amount will help MAF fund 20 emergency flights. According to spokespeople, MAF operates over 120 aircraft worldwide, which are used to deliver relief supplies to refugee camps and transport doctors to remote villages.

An MAF plane takes off or lands every 7 minutes, and the organization conducts more than 300 medevac flights annually in Papua New Guinea. The organizers aim to make this event an annual competition.
