RCMP investigating online threats against new Liberal MP Chris d’Entremont after floor-crossing

HALIFAX: An online threat has been reported against a Member of Parliament in Nova Scotia who recently defected to the Liberal Party. The target of the threat was Chris d’Entremont, who recently left the Conservative Party to join the Liberals.

Cindy Bayers, spokesperson for the Nova Scotia RCMP, confirmed that a report regarding the threat against the MP, who represents the riding of Acadie–Annapolis, was received by Yarmouth Rural RCMP on Wednesday. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the matter.

In a statement, d’Entremont justified his decision to switch parties by stating that the federal budget prioritizes the needs and priorities of his riding, and that this move offers a better way for the country to move forward.

The police have not disclosed any further details regarding the nature of the threat against the MP. It is understood that the political shift may have provoked voters and political opponents, leading to the threat. D’Entremont had narrowly defeated the Liberal candidate in the last federal election by a slim margin of 1.1% of the vote.
