VANCOUVER: Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver, with significant precipitation expected to start on Wednesday and continue through Thursday. The warning specifically targets the North Shore, Tri-Cities, and Howe Sound regions.
The rain is forecasted to begin around noon on Wednesday, intensifying throughout the day and continuing heavily through Wednesday night and into Thursday. The weather agency anticipates a total accumulation of between 40 and 60 millimeters of rain across the affected areas before the system is expected to ease late Thursday night.
ECCC attributes the significant rainfall to a low-pressure system that has developed off the British Columbia South Coast. The persistent downpour carries several hazards. Authorities warn that heavy rain could lead to localized flooding, resulting in water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas.
Furthermore, the weather agency has issued a caution regarding the increased risk of landslides, particularly in areas with steep slopes and regions recently affected by wildfires, where the ground stability may be compromised. Residents are advised to take precautions, monitor weather alerts, and exercise extra vigilance while commuting during this period.
