Montreal: The Quebec Anti-Corruption Squad (UPAC) has launched a criminal investigation into the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP), which has been grappling with intensifying internal strife.
Quebec Liberal Party leader, Pablo Rodriguez, has confirmed and welcomed the anti-corruption unit’s investigation, stating the party and all its members will cooperate fully.
“If someone has done anything illegal, the truth must come out, and as a leader, I want such an investigation,” Rodriguez stated.
The investigation deals a further blow to the party, which has been in crisis due to several internal conflicts, including:
- The firing of Chief of Staff Geneviève Hins without consultation with Rodriguez.
- The suspension of Marwah Rizqy following allegations that money was paid for votes during the leadership race held earlier this year.
The QLP, already struggling with internal dissent, now faces scrutiny from UPAC, the provincial body tasked with combating corruption.
