MONTREAL: Quebec Labor Minister Jean Boulet has announced an internal investigation into the leak of a crucial document related to the Quebec labor department. The leaked document is a draft of a law that would allow union members to opt out of making financial contributions to union activities not directly related to employment. Boulet clarified that the leak did not come from the cabinet and that he does not know who released the document. The document was leaked to Québec solidaire MNA Alexandre Leduc.
According to reports, the provisions in the leaked draft reflect the ruling CAQ’s displeasure with unions such as the FAE teachers’ union. The FAE union has challenged Bill 21, which prohibits religious symbols for some government employees. The minister emphasized the importance of keeping the contents of such bills strictly confidential. He added that while members of parliament have the right to know the contents of a bill secretly, this leak affects parliamentary privilege.
