OTTAWA: The prestigious American beer brewing institution, the Siebel Institute of Technology, is relocating its operations from Chicago to Montreal, Canada. The school announced its decision to move, citing challenges arising from policies implemented under the Trump administration.
John Hannahfan, the Institute’s Educational Director, stated that recent changes in U.S. laws have created difficulties for international students attempting to attend in-person classes. He emphasized that the shift to Montreal would be advantageous for the student body.
The relocation marks the end of an era for Chicago. Liz Garabe, Executive Director of the Beer Culture Center, expressed regret over the move, noting that when John Siebel founded the institute in the 1800s, it was a prime example of the American dream and entrepreneurship, making its departure a significant loss for the city.
The Siebel Institute highlighted that Montreal will offer its students world-class facilities along with a secure and culturally rich environment, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality brewing education.
