Poll shows rising doubts about Poilievre’s leadership

OTTAWA: A new survey reveals that despite his recent by-election victory, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is facing challenges in gaining public support. A report from the Angus Reid Institute found that while 73% of Canadians who participated view him as a “strong critic of the government,” 50% said they would be “ashamed” to call him Prime Minister. The survey also indicated that 52% of respondents believe he is insincere.

Pierre Poilievre returned to the House of Commons with a significant victory in the Battle River-Crowfoot by-election held on Monday. This by-election was necessary after Poilievre lost his long-held seat in the Carleton riding during the April federal election. Following that loss, the Conservative Party MLA for Battle River-Crowfoot, Damien Kurek, resigned his seat to allow Poilievre to contest and regain his position in parliament.
