WARSAW: Polish authorities have decided to file charges against two Ukrainian citizens in connection with an explosion that caused damage to a railway line used for supplies to Ukraine. The blast occurred about 100 kilometers from Warsaw. Authorities allege that the defendants, who cooperated with Russian intelligence agencies, fled to Belarus after the attack.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented that this was an “extraordinary act of sabotage.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Poland and Ukraine would establish a working group to prevent further sabotage with Russian links.
In retaliation for the attack, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski ordered the closure of Russia’s last remaining consulate in Poland, located in Gdańsk. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reacted by stating that this action has completely worsened relations with Poland. The Polish government also announced that it would deploy an additional 10,000 soldiers to protect critical infrastructure.
