OTTAWA – In a move to provide relief for thousands of workers amidst rising economic pressures, Ontario’s minimum wage is set to increase starting October 1st. The provincial minimum wage will rise by approximately 2.3%, from $17.20 to $17.60 per hour. The wage increase is being implemented based on changes in the daily costs of living, such as food, housing, and transportation.
Minimum wage rates will also increase on October 1st for those who work from home, students, and guides for hunting, fishing, and wildlife. The minimum wage for part-time students under the age of 18 will increase from $16.20 to $16.60 per hour. For virtual assistants, freelance designers, and home-based craftspeople, the minimum wage will rise from $18.90 to $19.35 per hour.
