HALIFAX — Major changes to Nova Scotia’s curbside recycling regulations will take effect starting Monday. The updated rules mean a broader range of materials will now be accepted for recycling in blue bags, including items such as toothpaste tubes, deodorant containers, paper cups, and ice cream cartons.
A key part of this shift involves moving responsibility for the recycling program. Companies that sell packaged products will now be primarily responsible for managing the program, promoting recycling and reducing waste.
While the changes aim to boost recycling rates, some items will no longer be accepted for curbside collection, including books, dishes, and pans.
Additionally, flexible plastics, such as chip bags and foam packaging, must now be returned directly to designated deposit centers instead of being placed in blue bags.
