Nova Scotia launches new medical program to address rural doctor shortage

HALIFAX: Cape Breton University (CBU) has welcomed the first cohort of 30 students to a new medical program. The program, a joint initiative between CBU and Dalhousie University, aims to increase medical assistance in rural and remote communities.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston stated that by training more doctors locally, they can ensure better healthcare for future generations of families.

CBU has stipulated that the selected students must commit to practicing medicine in rural Nova Scotia for five years after they graduate. All 30 students chosen for the program are from Nova Scotia.
