Nova Scotia implements province-wide burn ban and firework prohibition amid dry conditions

Halifax: Nova Scotia has implemented a province-wide burn ban and a prohibition on fireworks this weekend, following concerns over dry weather and high temperatures that could lead to the rapid spread of wildfires. The ban is set to remain in effect until October 15.

Provincial authorities have stated that no fireworks will be permitted during the prohibition period. This means that light shows during the Civic Long Weekend will be limited. Violators of the ban face a hefty fine of $25,000.

Minister of Natural Resources, Tory Rushton, stated that the province continues to experience dry conditions with little to no rain expected in the immediate future, according to weather forecasts. Several small and large fires have already occurred across the province this month due to the elevated temperatures. Rushton emphasized the devastating impact of wildfires in 2023, stating that the province does not wish for a repeat of such destruction and urged residents to cooperate with the measures.
