HALIFAX: In response to a severe drought, the Nova Scotia government is providing additional support to farmers through its ‘On-Farm Water Management Program.’ Officials have announced a $475,000 investment to help agricultural producers increase their water supply by implementing projects such as wells and ponds.
The President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture stated that this year’s drought has underscored the vital importance of water for farming and food security. The new funding will be used to support all existing eligible applications and will also allow the government to invite new applications for the program. The ‘On-Farm Water Management’ initiative is designed to assist farmers during periods of drought and elevated wildfire risk, helping them to improve water management and reduce fire hazards.
