ST. JOHN’S: Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador head to the polls today to cast their votes in the provincial general election.
Liberal Party leader John Hogan, whose party has been in power for the last ten years, is hoping to secure a majority government once again. However, Progressive Conservative leader Tony Wakeham argues that a change in the provincial government is essential. Wakeham has publicly questioned whether the Liberal administration has delivered improvements in the health sector and the overall standard of living.
NDP leader Jim Din commented that this election will effectively serve as a referendum on the Liberal Party’s performance in office.
The 40-seat assembly requires a party to win 21 seats to form a majority government. Prior to the election call, the Liberals held 19 seats, the Conservatives held 14 seats, the NDP held one seat, with two Independents and four seats being vacant.
