Montreal Braces for Mixed Precipitation, High Winds, and Drastic Temperature Swings

MONTREAL — Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Montreal, forecasting a turbulent stretch of winter weather characterized by snow, rain, and significant temperature fluctuations over the coming days. The city is expected to experience steady snowfall with wind speeds reaching up to 15 km/h, while temperatures hover near a chilly 2°C today. As night falls, the sky will remain overcast with a 40% probability of flurries or light snow. While Thursday morning may begin with cloud cover and biting cold, the weather is expected to clear slightly by the afternoon as temperatures rise toward a high of 1°C.

The real shift begins on Friday, as a warmer air mass brings rain and a notable temperature spike to a high of 6°C. This wet weather is predicted to persist into Saturday, with daytime highs staying around 2°C before the rain tapers off in the evening. However, residents should prepare for a sharp return to freezing conditions by the end of the weekend; although Sunday may see intermittent rain and unstable conditions, a dramatic cold front will sweep through at night, plunging temperatures down to a frigid 9°C. Environment Canada advises commuters to remain cautious as the cycle of thawing and freezing could create hazardous, icy conditions on city roads and sidewalks.
