Montreal Activist Demands PM Carney Pressure Israel on Gaza Aid

OTTAWA: Nima Machouf, a human rights activist based in Montreal, has urgently called upon Prime Minister Mark Carney to exert maximum pressure on Israel to fully comply with the Gaza peace plan. Machouf demanded that Canada ensure Israel adheres to the US-backed peace agreement and that humanitarian aid is immediately allowed into the Gaza Strip.

The activist spoke to the media upon her return to Montreal airport, days after she was detained by the Israeli military while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza.

Machouf was one of the Canadian citizens aboard the ship ‘The Conscience,’ which was intercepted by the Israeli military. She alleged that they were kidnapped in international waters and subjected to psychological torture and humiliation during their detention.

“Canada should have acted years ago to prevent the genocide in Gaza. Arms sales to Israel must stop immediately,” she asserted.

In her address, Machouf further called for the establishment of a secure corridor to ensure the urgent delivery of aid to the people of Gaza, and demanded the cessation of trade agreements with Israel that she claims pose a threat to Palestinian lives.

The demands come as Prime Minister Mark Carney is currently in Egypt, where he is participating in a ceremony with world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, to sign the Middle East peace accord.
