NEW DELHI: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to visit India later this month as part of a three-nation Indo-Pacific tour. The visit, spanning from February 26 to March 7, 2026, aims to strengthen trade, investment, and strategic partnerships with India, Australia, and Japan amid global economic uncertainties. This marks Carney’s first official visit to India since assuming office as Prime Minister.
Carney will begin his India tour in Mumbai before heading to New Delhi for high-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in key sectors, including trade, energy, technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and defense. Political analysts view this visit as a crucial step in normalizing bilateral relations following recent diplomatic frictions. The two leaders have previously met on the sidelines of G7 and G20 summits.
During his stay, Carney is also scheduled to meet with prominent Indian business leaders to discuss investment opportunities in Canada. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that Canada is focused on building a more resilient economy in an increasingly uncertain world. Following his engagements in India, Carney will travel to Sydney and Canberra to meet Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to discuss defense, maritime security, and critical minerals.
