WINNIPEG – Manitoba health officials have issued an urgent warning following potential measles exposures at the Manitoba Ag Days in Brandon and several locations in Winkler. Authorities state that anyone who attended the three-day indoor farm show at the Keystone Centre between January 20 and 22, as well as those who visited nearby hotels, restaurants, and shops during that week, should monitor for symptoms. Specific alerts have also been issued for the town of Winkler, covering visitors to the Stacked Pancake and Breakfast House on February 1, the Boundary Trails Health Centre public health office on February 2, and its emergency department between February 3 and 4.
The health agency emphasizes that symptoms—including fever, runny nose, and red eyes followed by a blotchy rash—can appear between 7 to 21 days after exposure. Because measles is highly contagious and can be life-threatening for infants and the immunocompromised, officials are urging all potentially exposed individuals to verify their immunization records. Those who are not up to date on their MMR vaccine are encouraged to contact health services, while anyone developing symptoms is advised to isolate and call ahead before visiting a clinic to prevent further transmission.
