Major Fire in Hong Kong Residential Complex Kills 12; Many Feared Trapped

HONG KONG: A devastating fire has swept through multiple high-rise residential complexes in the area of North Taipei, Hong Kong, with authorities confirming the recovery of 12 bodies. Rescue efforts are ongoing amid reports that numerous residents remain trapped inside the buildings, according to the South China Morning Post.

The incident began around 6:22 PM local time on Wednesday. Government sources reported that the fire started in the 31-story building within the Wang Fuk Court housing complex, with smoke rising first before the flames intensified and spread. Fire services immediately rushed to the scene to lead the rescue operation.

The Wang Fuk Court area is known as one of the world’s most densely populated regions. The Fire Services Department stated that the exact number of people trapped inside the complex is still unknown. Several ambulances and firefighting units are currently involved in the massive rescue effort. Reports also indicate that some firefighters sustained burn injuries during the operation.
