Following a comprehensive assessment, elephant experts Dr. Jennifer D’Agostino and Mr. Michael McClure confirmed that the zoo staff has successfully provided an enriched environment for Lucy, including top-tier medical care and optimal nutrition.
At 50 years old, Lucy has been managing several chronic age-related conditions, including osteoarthritis, chronic sinus congestion, and episodic low blood protein. However, a spokesperson for the Edmonton Valley Zoo stated that thanks to specialized treatment and consistent monitoring, Lucy’s health has stabilized significantly.
The zoo reaffirmed its commitment to Lucy’s well-being, stating that she will continue to receive the highest standard of specialized care for the remainder of her life. The update brings relief to the local community, which has long viewed Lucy as a symbol of the Edmonton Valley Zoo.
