Ottawa: As speculation grows over a possible federal election announcement on Sunday, both the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party have accelerated their candidate nominations, with a notable focus on the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and nearby regions. Both parties have prioritized Punjabi candidates, a move that has sparked internal criticism and intensified political debates.
The Conservative Party has reportedly allocated over fifteen seats to Punjabi candidates, leading to dissatisfaction within some party factions. Allegations have emerged suggesting the influence of a pro-Khalistan group within the Conservative Party, working to secure greater representation.
Similarly, the Liberal Party, known for its perceived support of pro-Khalistan views, has also nominated around fifteen Punjabi candidates. In a controversial move, Chandra Arya, a vocal critic of Khalistan extremism, was denied a renomination. Arya, who had previously condemned attacks on Hindu communities in Canada, confirmed on social media on Friday that he would not be receiving the party’s endorsement for the upcoming election.
Political analysts suggest that the increasing influence of Khalistan supporters within both major parties could further strain Canada-India relations. The growing foothold of such groups in mainstream politics is expected to draw significant attention in the coming election campaign.
