OTTAWA: Khalistan separatist leader Inderjit Singh Gosal has publicly refused protection offered by the Canadian government, despite acknowledging receiving death threats. Gosal stated that he has no plans to go into hiding and confirmed his intention to participate in the upcoming Khalistan referendum scheduled for November 23.
Gosal, a 36-year-old resident of Brampton, is a leading figure in the Khalistan movement, which advocates for the independence of the Punjab region from India.
In his statement, Gosal emphasized his commitment to the movement and rejected any notion of seeking refuge. His public refusal comes shortly after his recent release on bail. Gosal had been arrested in connection with several cases, including charges related to the possession of weapons.
The move by the separatist leader to decline state protection while facing explicit threats highlights the volatile political climate surrounding the Khalistan movement within Canada.
