Inmate has escaped women’s prison in Kitchener: Correctional Services Canada

KITCHENER: Correctional Service Canada has reported that an inmate has escaped from the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener. Officials at the minimum-security prison reported that 59-year-old Caroline Burden was found missing during a check at around 11:30 AM on August 31.

Prison authorities have contacted the Waterloo Regional Police, who have since issued an arrest warrant for Burden. Burden is described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds, with a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. According to rural police, she was last seen in the area of Homer Watson Boulevard and Manitou Drive in Kitchener.

Caroline Burden was serving a five-year sentence for fraud-related offences. Investigators have requested that the public not approach her if she is sighted, but instead contact WRPS at 9-1-1 or 519-570-9777.
