EDMONTON, AB: An Indian-origin businessman, Arvi Singh Sagoo (55), has died five days after being brutally assaulted in central Edmonton when he confronted a stranger for urinating on his car. The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) confirmed the victim’s death following the attack that occurred near 109 Street and 100 Avenue.
The incident took place when Sagoo and his girlfriend were returning to their vehicle after having dinner. They discovered 40-year-old Kyle Papin urinating on their car. When Sagoo questioned the man, Papin allegedly attacked the businessman.
Sagoo sustained critical injuries in the assault and was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state. He succumbed to his injuries five days later.
The EPS initially arrested Kyle Papin and charged him with serious assault. Following Sagoo’s death, the EPS Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, and charges are expected to be upgraded to manslaughter or murder.
Police reported that Papin is scheduled to appear in court on November 4. The investigation is ongoing as authorities gather further evidence related to the fatal confrontation.
