NEW DELHI – In a major strategic move to bolster its technological sovereignty, India has formally joined Pax Silica, a U.S.-led international alliance aimed at securing global supply chains for critical minerals, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The official declaration was signed on Friday during the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, marking India’s entry into an elite group of nations committed to building a resilient and secure technological ecosystem. This framework is designed to ensure that the next generation of industries has stable access to essential resources while fostering deep economic and technical cooperation among its members.
The Pax Silica initiative was originally launched in December during a summit in Washington, bringing together key global partners including Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the UAE, and the UK. By joining this coalition, India aligns itself with a long-term economic framework that covers the entire value chain—from raw materials to advanced semiconductor manufacturing and AI data centers. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to mutual prosperity and security, aiming to prevent disruptions in the supply of high-tech components that are vital for modern economies.
India’s inclusion in the alliance follows an official invitation extended by U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, earlier in January. The alliance is seen as a “trusted” network of democratic nations working together to counter economic vulnerabilities and reduce over-reliance on single-source suppliers. For India, this membership is expected to accelerate its domestic semiconductor mission and provide Indian tech firms with better access to global markets and cutting-edge research and development.
Beyond securing materials, Pax Silica serves as a platform for deeper diplomatic and strategic ties. It establishes a structured environment for member countries to collaborate on AI safety, infrastructure development, and the ethical use of emerging technologies. As India continues to position itself as a global hub for AI and electronics manufacturing, its role within Pax Silica is viewed as a cornerstone of its “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) vision for the coming decades.
