OTTAWA – Roots Corporation, the legendary Canadian apparel brand synonymous with “cabin-meets-city” style, has announced that it is exploring a potential sale of the company. The Board of Directors has initiated a formal review of “strategic alternatives” aimed at maximizing value for shareholders and accelerating growth in an increasingly competitive retail landscape.

Founded in 1973 by Michael Budman and Don Green, Roots has grown from a single shop in Toronto to a global identity. Today, the corporation operates over 100 retail stores in Canada, two in the United States, and more than 100 partner-operated locations across Asia. Despite its iconic status, the company noted that the decision to evaluate a sale or other strategic shifts comes as a response to evolving market dynamics and the need to enhance long-term shareholder benefits.

The company emphasized that the review process is currently underway and that the management team remains committed to its core objectives during this transition. However, Roots officials cautioned that the review does not guarantee a sale or any specific transaction at this time. As one of Canada’s most recognizable heritage brands, this potential shift in ownership has sparked significant interest across the global retail sector, with a final decision expected in the coming months.
