Highway 3 Reopens in British Columbia Following Flood Repairs

VANCOUVER – Highway 3 in southwestern British Columbia has officially reopened to traffic after being shut down for weeks due to heavy rain and devastating floods. The B.C. Ministry of Transportation announced that the critical route between Hope and Princeton was restored earlier than expected, opening around midnight on December 25. The highway had been completely closed since December 16 to repair extensive damage.

While the connection is back in service, the Ministry has advised drivers traveling between the Lower Mainland and the Southern Interior to consider using Highway 1 or Highway 5 as alternatives until full two-way traffic is completely stabilized. Officials warned that travelers should expect heavier-than-usual congestion and delays on the route.

Furthermore, authorities issued a cautionary note stating that provincial highways remain subject to closure at any time depending on changing weather conditions. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant, stay updated on the latest weather forecasts, and travel prepared with warm clothing, snacks, water, and a full tank of fuel or a fully charged electric vehicle battery.
