KITCHENER: A high-risk offender who was recently released after serving time for a homicide conviction has been re-arrested by police in Kitchener. Kevin Kohler, a 60-year-old man, was taken into custody by the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Offender Management Unit after violating his court-imposed conditions. Kohler had been released earlier this month (on the 16th), and due to the nature of his past convictions, he was deemed a significant risk to public safety.
Kohler was convicted of manslaughter (നരഹത്യ) in 2013. He had previously been placed on the high-risk offender registry due to a history that includes assaulting police officers and assaults involving weapons.
He was released under several stringent conditions. Key conditions he was required to follow included immediately notifying authorities of any change of address, adhering to a strict nighttime curfew, and abstaining from the use of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.
Following the violation of these terms, Kevin Kohler was arrested again, presented before a court, and subsequently remanded. Officials have confirmed that the accused will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
