Heavy Snow and Freezing Conditions Trigger Power Outages Across Quebec

MONTREAL – A powerful winter storm bringing heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures has knocked out power to thousands of residents across Quebec. According to data released by Hydro-Québec as of 9:14 AM on Friday, a total of 7,034 customers were without electricity across the province, with the vast majority of outages concentrated in the Greater Montreal area.

The Montreal region has been hardest hit, recording 5,013 outages, followed by Laval with 1,169. Other affected areas include Montérégie, which reported 175 outages, and the Laurentians with 32. Within Montreal, the impact has been most severe in the West Island, specifically affecting neighborhoods in Dorval and Pointe-Claire.

Hydro-Québec Response

Utility crews are currently deployed across the affected zones to assess the damage caused by heavy snow accumulation on power lines and infrastructure. Hydro-Québec officials stated that they are working intensively to restore service, though the pace of repairs remains dependent on the weather conditions.

“Teams are on the ground working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible as the weather stabilizes,” a utility representative noted.

Residents are advised to monitor the Hydro-Québec outage map for real-time updates and to exercise caution near any downed power lines.
