Health authority warns of possible hepatitis A exposure at pizza restaurant on B.C. coast

VANCOUVER: Vancouver Coastal Health has confirmed a new Hepatitis A outbreak at a restaurant on the British Columbia Sunshine Coast. The infection was found at Pepper Creek Pizza & Pasta in Sechelt. The health department has warned that people who ate salad at the restaurant between July 31st and August 14th, and between August 23rd and 29th, may have been exposed. Officials also stated that those who ate cooked food at the restaurant are not at risk of contracting the disease.

The health department has advised anyone who consumed salads from Pepper Creek Pizza & Pasta during the specified dates to get the Hepatitis A vaccine immediately, as it can prevent the illness if administered promptly after exposure.

The earlier notice, issued on Aug. 28, concerned food from the Sea Monkey Coffee food truck that was located at the Sunday Cider bar between Aug. 1 and 25. 

Symptoms of Hepatitis A

  • Severe fatigue
  • Loss of appetite, abdominal discomfort
  • Weight loss
  • Pain on the right side of the abdomen, below the ribs
  • Fever
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes
