Foreign Minister Anita Anand Condemns Strikes on Qatar and UAE

New Delhi: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand has called for an immediate end to Iranian attacks on Canada’s partner nations in the Middle East. Strongly condemning the strikes targeting Qatar, the Minister affirmed that Canada stands firmly with the UAE as it defends itself against Iranian provocations. These remarks come following the confirmation of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a joint U.S.-Israeli military operation.

Minister Anand is currently in Mumbai alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney as part of an official diplomatic visit to India. While expressing support for U.S. actions in Iran, the Prime Minister clarified that Canada would not be directly intervening in the conflict. Describing Iran as a primary source of instability and terrorism in the region, Carney emphasized that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. The Prime Minister is scheduled to travel to Delhi today to continue talks aimed at enhancing diplomatic and trade ties with India.

Meanwhile, experts warn that supporting U.S. strikes could pose a security threat to Canada, potentially leading to retaliatory cyberattacks or the targeting of dissidents abroad by a desperate Iranian regime. The Canadian government has issued an advisory to its citizens in the Middle East to remain cautious and prioritize their safety. Analysts believe the internal shifts in Iran and the escalating war will have significant repercussions on global politics in the coming days.
