Five Hospitalized in Queensland After Rat Poison Found in Homemade Food

QUEENSLAND – Five people have been hospitalized in Queensland, Australia, after consuming homemade food products that were found to be contaminated with rat poison.

Initial testing confirmed the presence of Brodifacoum, a chemical commonly found in rodenticides. Primary investigations suggest that the poison was present in ‘capsicum paste’ and ‘marinated eggplant’ that were prepared at home and sold.

Authorities have confirmed that all five individuals admitted to the hospital are now in a stable condition and out of danger.

Following the incident, the Queensland government has issued a public warning urging citizens to avoid purchasing and consuming unlabelled products prepared at home. Queensland Health has intensified its investigation to pinpoint the exact source of the poisoning. The Health Department has also advised the public to remain vigilant, as there is a risk that unlabelled products of this kind may still be circulating in the market.
