Edmonton rise snow removal funds to clear sidewalks and bus stops

Edmonton: The Edmonton City Council has recommended allocating an additional $8 million for snow removal from bus stops and sidewalks. The proposal aims to provide better facilities for pedestrians and bus commuters during the winter months. The recommendation is expected to receive final approval in the coming months.

The council considered four different funding options for the project, ranging from an additional $3.5 million to $19 million, before settling on the $8 million figure.

Merchants on Alberta Avenue highlighted the need for improved snow clearing, stating that water pooling on sidewalks and turning into ice creates significant difficulties for pedestrians. They also suggested that involving businesses in the planning of snow removal projects would be more effective.

Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi noted that more funding is required to keep pace with the city’s growth, which has resulted in an increase in sidewalks needing to be maintained.
