EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has issued a public warning following a series of robberies targeting individuals selling items through online platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. Authorities reported at least 15 such incidents within the past month, primarily involving the sale of high-end mobile phones and designer clothing.
The suspects typically pose as legitimate buyers. During the meeting, one or more accomplices arrive to intimidate or threaten the seller before fleeing with the goods. In some instances, victims were reportedly threatened at gunpoint. While these incidents initially surfaced in the Duggan area of Southwest Edmonton, they have since spread to other parts of the city.
Police have confirmed the arrest of three teenagers in connection with these crimes, charging them with theft under $5,000. Law enforcement officials are urging residents to exercise extreme caution, advising sellers to meet only in well-lit, busy public spaces or designated “Buy and Sell Exchange Zones” to ensure their safety.
