Edmonton Lifts Phase 1 Parking Ban After Major Snow Clearance

EDMONTON – City officials have announced that the Phase 1 parking ban, which was implemented following last week’s heavy snowfall, will be lifted today. The ban officially ends at 7:00 a.m. Monday morning, allowing residents to resume parking on major routes.

The Phase 1 ban was put in place to allow city crews to clear snow and ice from high-priority areas, including arterial roads, collector roads, bus routes, and roads within Business Improvement Areas.

Current Status and Maintenance

While the parking restrictions on these major roads have been removed, the City of Edmonton noted that road maintenance is still ongoing:

  • Residential and Industrial Areas: Officials confirmed that a Phase 2 parking ban (covering residential and industrial streets) will not be implemented at this time.
  • Ongoing Work: Despite the lack of a formal Phase 2 ban, residents are asked to move their vehicles if they see city crews working on their streets to ensure thorough clearing.
  • Safety First: Drivers are reminded to give snow plows and maintenance equipment plenty of space as they continue to sand and salt city streets.

Monitoring Future Bans

The City uses a phased approach to manage snow removal, prioritizing emergency routes and transit paths first. While Phase 1 is now over, residents are encouraged to stay informed about future weather events that could trigger new restrictions.
