HALIFAX – In a significant move to bolster international education and research ties, Dalhousie University has announced plans to establish a new presence in India. The university will collaborate with two of India’s premier research institutions to develop a “Tri-Institutional Global Innovation Campus” in Tirupati.

The initiative is part of a broader federal government strategy to bridge Canada and India in critical sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), education, and energy. Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand stated that this move is expected to drive economic growth and strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The new campus will be developed in partnership with IIT Tirupati and IISER Tirupati. According to Dalhousie University President Kim Brooks, the project will be rolled out in phases over the next decade.

Two distinct agreements have already been signed:

  • Dual Nursing Degree: The first focuses on a collaborative nursing program.
  • Research & Innovation: The second aims to foster cooperation in specialized fields, including digital agriculture and aquaculture.
