Cybersecurity centre warns of ‘sophisticated’ threat targeting Cisco equipment

OTTAWA: The federal Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (CCCS) has urged Canadian organizations to take immediate action against a sophisticated malware threat targeting computer systems.

The CCCS announced that it has identified highly complex malware aimed at compromising Cisco ASA 5500-X series devices, which are commonly used by most organizations across Canada.

The Centre has instructed affected organizations to immediately install the appropriate patches if these vulnerabilities are detected. Authorities noted that the current threat is particularly difficult to detect through normal means due to its use of highly specialized technical methods.

The CCCS has directed organizations that believe they may be facing this threat to contact officials as soon as possible via telephone at 1-833-CYBER-88 or by email at contact@cyber.gc.ca.
