Carney to meet with Incident Response Group to discuss the wildfire situation

OTTAWA: Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to convene the Incident Response Group in Ottawa today to discuss the ongoing wildfire situation across Canada. This meeting comes as wildfires have flared up again after a brief recession in May and June, impacting several provinces.

The Incident Response Group is comprised of ministers and senior officials who address critical national issues. This is not the first time the group has met regarding wildfires this year. Prime Minister Carney also convened them just over a month ago to address the earlier wave of fires.

Currently, over 6,000 people have been displaced from their homes in Manitoba, with communities like Lynn Lake and Snow Lake facing their second evacuation in weeks. In Saskatchewan, approximately 1,000 residents have been forced to evacuate. The fires have also led to widespread smoke warnings and advisories across much of Manitoba and into Saskatchewan. The BC Wildfire Service has warned that more significant fire behavior could occur today and tomorrow due to a change in weather patterns in the Coastal Fire Centre.
