Canadians begin receiving payments from $78M auto parts class-action settlement

OTTAWA – Canadians have started to receive payments from a $78 million class-action settlement related to price-fixing in the automotive parts industry. The settlement addresses allegations that the prices of automotive parts installed in new vehicles purchased or leased between 1998 and 2016 were illegally fixed. Payments, a minimum of $25 per claim, began to be sent out via e-Transfer and cheque starting on August 28.

The price-fixing claims led to criminal investigations and multiple lawsuits globally. The settlement stems from 23 related class-action proceedings in Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec. These cases, led by law firms including Siskinds and Sotos, alleged that parts manufacturers conspired to illegally fix the prices of approximately 45 different automotive parts.
