Canadian Tire says recent breach of e-commerce database involved customer info

TORONTO: Canadian Tire has reported that a cyberattack resulted in the theft of private user information stored within its e-commerce database. The company disclosed that the security breach, which occurred on October 2nd, compromised names, addresses, emails, years of birth, encrypted passwords, and credit card numbers.

The compromised data belongs to users with e-commerce accounts across Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s/L’Équipeur, and Party City. The company further stated that the full dates of birth for approximately 150,000 account holders were also leaked.

However, Canadian Tire clarified that the stolen information cannot be used to access user accounts or execute transactions. The company confirmed that the risk posed by the cyberattack has been mitigated and security measures have been enhanced.
