Canadian PM Carney to meet with Trump in Washington on October. 7

OTTAWA: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump early next week for discussions concerning tariffs and trade. The high-level meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7th.

This will mark Carney’s second visit to Washington since taking office as Prime Minister. The timing of the meeting is significant, as both Canada and the United States are preparing for the first joint review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).

The two countries have been engaged in talks for months regarding a new economic and security agreement. Carney and his team have emphasized that their priority is to achieve a better deal for Canada.

The relationship faced strain earlier this year when President Trump initiated a trade dispute in February by announcing new duties on Canadian products. However, he subsequently granted exemptions for imports covered under the CUSMA free trade agreement between Canada, the U.S., and and Mexico.
